⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Ban
Age: Unknown (At least mid-40's, biologically locked to 23)
Canon: The Seven Deadly Sins
Canon Point: End of S1 OVAs

Background: "One day I'll take what's mine."

Personality: Ban is, in many ways, just your average Joe. Putting aside his immortality, that is. The man can't die, and has potent magical powers, but he looks at all the weird stuff going on around him and calls it out for what it is: strange. And he's remarkably self-aware. When he calls himself "a worthless fucking piece of shit", he's not just being dramatic or looking for asspats. He knows his life has added up to completely worthless, he knows he's a criminal, a low-life, and a thug. Doesn't stop him from living his life. He is who he is. He's passionate in his reactions to just about everything, but his approach to life is laid back.

To say he's greedy and selfish would be an understatement. Even after losing Elaine, he remains so. His whole life until then had amounted to taking care of himself and only himself. Once he lost her, he added getting her back to his priorities. It is the only thing that trumps his selfishness. And he'll do whatever it takes to make it happen, even so far as killing his best friend if that's what it takes. He is morally deficient and not ashamed of that fact.

However, Ban is not without a weird sense of caring. He'll feed stray kids that are starving (even if it is to milk them for information). Yet, he had no problem stealing every stuffed animal in town, not caring if all the kids were crying about it. He gets annoyed when lives are spent for no good reason at all. On the flip side, he won't hesitate to kill someone for whom death is the better option. When someone goes begging his forgiveness for some minor infraction, he blows them off, telling them that true sins cannot be absolved. He knows. He's committed them. He doesn't sweat the small stuff because he's pulled the big sins. But that's about all the comfort he's gonna spend on them. However, he takes pity on Elaine's loneliness and selflessly offers to go find her brother so she can leave the fountain she guards, to let her see the world.

He's got a quiet, undercurrent of insecurity and he doesn't like humans. (Despite being one himself.) Small wonder. As a child, his parents (human) beat him, made him steal his own food, kicked him when he slept. He was captured and sold into slavery (more humans). It was a wereman who rescued him and taught him how to fend for himself. His best friend is a demon. His love is a fairy. Among his comrades are more fairies, a giant and a doll. He supposes the other human in the batch is okay enough. But he really hates being around humans. He tolerates them, but meh. He slowly comes to be tolerant of Jerico, or well he doesn't hate being around her eventually. Essentially what draws him to open himself up to people are the traits that he found in Meliodas and Elaine: a willingness to listen to him, and to give a damn about a worthless scumbag. (He still thinks they're weirdos for that, btw.) His life has been crappy. When he went to steal the Fountain of Youth, it wasn't for bragging rights or the vaunted immortality per se, he just figured his life had been pretty shitty so far, but if he lived long enough, maybe something good would happen. It's worth mentioning that Ban is far from the brightest bulb in the box, but that particular line of reasoning was pretty solid. Until it blew up in his face.

In a lot of ways, he's like a very excitable puppy, eagerly throwing himself at anything and everything that looks like fun. It's not an act, but it is his way of coping with his life. He admits that he uses the activities of the Seven Deadly Sins and the chaos that whips up as a way to function in a life without Elaine. But even so, he realizes that his life is Hell without her and staying busy is not enough to ease his pain and grief and emptiness. He also uses his lust for combat to such ends as well. His over the top drinking plays a part in that too, not stopping until he passes out on the floor, however he was already a heavy drinker in response to his ultra shitty life prior to meeting Elaine. At least he's a happy drunk. When the Sins scattered 12 years ago, without that insanity to distract him, he fell into a deep depression and let himself go to prison because he wanted to hurt. And because there was a chance maybe they'd succeed in killing him so he could be reunited with Elaine. Didn't work. But he is obsessed. He promised he would find a way to claim her as his own and he's not going to rest until he does.

Abilities:

Culinary: Damn good cook. Funny since he doesn't have to eat. Also a mercy because Meliodas could kill someone with his cooking.

Theft: Mighta been lousy at it as a kid learning the ropes. However, now Ban is a skilled thief. He can (and will) steal the clothes off a man's back. He's more prone to cutpurse and pickpocket thefts. But he's not above a good ole burglary or heist either.

Combat: Ban excels at hand-to-hand combat. He does have a three-section staff, used as a flail type weapon. And he will with skill. The weapon itself is strong enough to prize hearts out of demons. However, he's just as capable (and happy to!) punch and kick the shit out of something until it submits or dies. Either way. FITE FITE FITE! His speed and strength surpass that of a normal human and meshes with his unique magical skill: Snatch.

Snatch: An ability that allows Ban to "rob" physical objects, thus grabbing them, and also the physical abilities of others, thus weakening them while gaining more strength and speed. However, this ability has a limit to how much Ban can rob a person's strength, in order to not damage his own body with overwhelming power. Using a form of snatch, Ban is also able to steal body parts from his opponents such as a heart or an arm in the blink of an eye. (from the wiki)

Fox Hunt: A variant of Snatch. Instead of just grabbing physical objects or draining and taking personal strength for himself, Ban uses his weapon to grab and rip out the heart/core/center of whatever enemy he's facing.

Hunter's Festival: Another variant on Snatch. Instead of swiping just the energy and strength of whomever is his opponent, Ban grabs hold and drains half the strength, speed and magic parameters of anyone within range. He takes those for himself, though not permanently. When he releases the skill, everyone returns to normal. He, however, gets dog tired and needs to nap it off afterwards. Especially if he pushes his capacity to take in.

Immortality: Because he's drank from the Fountain of Youth, Ban is now immortal and incapable of dying. He doesn't age, doesn't need to eat or drink either. (Though he does because it's enjoyable.) If his limbs are severed, he can use his Fox Hunt ability to grab those back and reattach them for immediate use. His wounds heal almost instantaneously, with some few god-level attacks being one of them. Case in point, his notorious scar on his face and neck are the result of one such attack. Point is, he can't die. Which frankly sucks because his girlfriend is dead.

Healing Blood: As he is now a walking form of the Fountain of Youth, Ban is capable of using his blood to heal grievous wounds and accelerate plant growth. He periodically bleeds himself at the base of the new Sacred Tree to rejuvenate and restore the Fairy Forest. But he needs to have some serious motivation and what's-in-it-for-him to bleed himself for someone's healing. His blood cannot revive the dead.

Alignment: Elios. Despite being a greedy, selfish SOB, Ban is madly deeply in love with his dead girlfriend. Everything he does is with the intention of getting her back or dying to get to her, even if he's not open about that motivation. Likewise, he hates the demon clan that took his beloved Elaine away from him.

Other:
- Because he drank the Fountain of Youth, Ban is essentially impossible to kill. He's been "executed" multiple times including a beheading and immolation. Realizing that might be OP in the game, I'm going to request his immortality remain in place. If he gets even half a whiff that he can actually die? He'll keep attempting it until it sticks. To balance it out, even in canon there are cases where it takes some quantity of time for him to heal/revive. But it always does happen. So it won't be an insta-fix if/when he takes fatal damage.

- Another note, that at present, Ban is not in possession of his Sacred Treasure, meaning that he is not running on his full magical potential. It is explained that a Sin's magic potential is like a lake. Having the treasure allows them to fully utilize that whole body of water. Without it, it is akin to taking out a single handful of water to drink. To date, Ban's fully realized potential with his treasure has not been treated in the manga, so it's up in the air just how strong he would be with it. He won't have the weapon with him, obviously, but it is worth noting regardless. He's not too fussed about it anyway.
